Barret Ringsted Or Downs Farmhouse

Barret Ringstead or Downs Farmhouse is a farmhouse that was formerly divided into three separate homes. It dates from the mid to late 17th century, with datestones from 1714 and 1754. The building is constructed from squared, coursed clunch with red galleting and features brick dressings, topped with a black glazed pantiled roof.

The farmhouse is two storeys high and may have been built in two or three phases. The western section has one ground floor casement window and two first floor windows, one of which is blocked and the other a casement. There is a 20th-century boarded door. The openings are dressed with brick, and the building has quoins, a dogtooth cornice, coped gables, and an east stack with the datestone of 1754.

The central section features two ground floor three-light 19th-century casements, two first floor two-light casements, and one single light casement. There are also two blocked former long and low windows on the ground floor, along with two first floor brick dressed fixed open casements and one open and one blocked small rectangular window.

The eastern section has two ground floor three-light casements, a central 20th-century door, and two first floor two-light casements, all of which are 20th-century replacements. The openings are brick dressed, and there are two blocked long and low windows at the eaves level on the first floor. The farmhouse has an axial stack dated 1714 and an east end gable stack, along with a single storey outshut at the rear.
