Description
Old Bar Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 18th century, raised in 1783 and extended by two bays in the 19th century. It is constructed of brick with a pantile roof. The 18th-century west end features a stone and brick plinth, a first-floor band, decorative diaper work, and a dentillated eaves band, along with a single ridge and gable stacks. The west gable is dated 1783. The building has two storeys plus garrets and three unequal bays. Most of the windows are 19th and 20th-century casements, with ground floor openings having segmental heads. On the north side, there is an off-centre door flanked by single casements, and to the right, another casement. Above, there are two casements and a Yorkshire sash to the right. The west gable has a central casement and a door to the right, with another central casement above, and yet another casement above that. On the south side, there are two casements to the left and a 20th-century French window to the right. Above, there is an off-centre blocked round opening flanked by single casements with segmental heads. Inside, the farmhouse features a fireplace bressummer, four span beams with chamfered and run-out stops, a first-floor stud wall, and an altered principal rafter roof with collars and tenoned purlins. There is an early 19th-century hob grate and a Classical style late 18th-century fireplace, along with two 18th-century plank doors.
