Description
Ivy House Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse that was refronted and extended in the mid-18th century. It is constructed from brick and coursed squared rubble, with dressed stone quoins and a steeply pitched 20th-century plain tile roof. The building features a chamfered and plain stone plinth, a brick plinth, and is partly rendered. The eaves are rebated and partly dentillated, and there are three ridge stacks. The farmhouse is two storeys high with garrets and has an L-plan layout with four bays.
On the left side, there is a 20th-century door flanked by a double sash window on the left and three sash windows on the right. Above, there are four sash windows, all with segmental heads. The west gable includes a 19th-century toilet block made of brick with a lean-to pantile roof, and above it to the right is an 18th-century Yorkshire sash window, along with a blocked opening. The south front has a double-gabled rear wing. To the left, there is a 20th-century casement window and door with a segmental head. To their right are three casements, the rightmost of which has a segmental head and a stone lintel. Above, there are four casements with segmental heads, one of which has a stone lintel. A cellar to the right of the rear wings features a casement with a segmental head on the east side. The east gable has a 20th-century sash window in the garret.
Inside, the southern section has jowls of two posts, and the principal rafter roof includes double tenoned purlins and wind braces, with some common rafters renewed. There is a two-flight oak winder stair in the southwest and a 19th-century winder stair with a turned newel in the east. The interior also features two stud walls with lath and plaster infill and three span beams, one of which has stops. A cased fireplace bressummer is also present.
