Description
Nos. 25 and 26 Market Place is a shop and house dating from the 18th century. The building is constructed of Flemish bond red brick and covered with red pantiles. It stands two storeys high and features a two-window shop and a two-window house.
The early 19th-century shop front on the west side has three-light windows divided by glazing bars and a central door topped with a rectangular fanlight, which is framed by a moulded architrave. On the first floor, there are two sash windows with glazing bars, all set beneath flat rubbed brick arches. An attic dormer is also present.
The house to the east has one ground floor sash window and two first floor sash windows, all with glazing bars and under flat rubbed brick arches. The west side features a six-panel door that is raised and fielded, with an architrave that includes fluted pilasters and a decorated frieze with alternating fluting and lozenges. The building has parapet eaves and a single dormer sash window with glazing bars.
