Description

Aickman's Yard features a combined domestic and likely stable range that was associated with John Aickman's iron foundry. The building, now divided into two houses, dates from the 17th century and later. It is constructed of red brick, which has been whitewashed on the front, and has a pantile roof. The front faces north and is two storeys high. In the center, there is a pair of double timber doors. To the left of these doors is a renewed three-light casement window, followed by a late 20th-century glazed door, a design that is mirrored to the right of the central doors. Further to the right is a three-light mullioned casement window that has been much restored. The first floor features four windows of various types, each imitating different architectural styles. The building has a gabled roof with a ridge stack located to the right of center. The east gable wall displays late 17th-century Flemish bond brickwork at the eaves, with 18th-century brickwork above.
