Description

This is an early 18th-century house with alterations from the 19th century. It is located on Cawood Old Road. The house is constructed of red brick, with some areas rendered with rough cast, and has pantile roofs with raised coped gables and kneelers. It features two brick ridge stacks. The building is two storeys high and includes a first-floor brick band. The doorway is off-centre and contains a 20th-century part-glazed door and overlight. To the right of the doorway is a blocked opening, to the left a 16-pane sash window, and further along a hand pump within a painted wooden casing, followed by a two-light sliding sash window with glazing bars. Above, there are two small two-light windows with glazing bars. Attached to the right is a single-storey stable wing with a four-panel door, a small casement window, and another door. The interior retains much of the original roof structure, stacks, and doors. The kitchen contains an early 19th-century fireplace and a stove dating from around 1900. The upper floor features an unusual construction consisting of four pairs of inverted knee-braces that support the floor.
