Description
Boughton War Memorial is situated in the churchyard of All Saints Church on Church Lane in Boughton, Norfolk, near the church tower. The memorial features a stone Latin cross on a four-sided collared shaft with chamfered corners, which rests on a moulded, square-section plinth above a single stone step base.
The inscription on the memorial includes: on the left face, "IN MEMORY OF THOSE WHO FELL/ IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1918/ THIS CROSS IS HUMBLY DEDICATED/ BY THE INHABITANTS OF THE VILLAGE"; on the right face, "AND THEY SHALL BE MINE/ SAITH THE LORD OF HOSTS/ IN THAT DAY WHEN/ I MAKE UP MY JEWELS/ MALACHI V3 CH17"; and on the reverse, "1914 – 1918." Most of the inscription, except for the dates and names, has been replaced with inserted marble slabs.
