Description

Wiggenhall St Germans War Memorial is a First World War memorial, erected around 1920, located in the churchyard of the Church of St Germans on Lynn Road, Wiggenhall St Germans, Norfolk. It is prominently positioned off the churchyard path. The memorial consists of a polished grey granite plain cross atop a tall shaft, which sits on a tapering plinth with a moulded cap and a two-stepped base. The entire structure is enclosed within a small square kerbed area.

The plinth features inscriptions dedicated to the First World War, while the upper tier of the base carries the inscription for the Second World War. The incised inscription reads: "TO THE MEMORY OF OUR FALLEN / (NAMES) / GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS / THAT A MAN LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS / FRIENDS / ST JOHN IV.13 // 1939 – 1945 / (NAMES)." Additionally, the south face of the plinth is inscribed with "THE GREAT WAR / 1914 – 1919."
