Description
No. 1 Surrey Street, formerly known as the Chequers Inn, is a public house that has been converted into two properties. It dates from the late 17th century and features a whitewashed brick exterior with a plain tiled roof. The building is two storeys high, with doors located on the right and left sides; the left door is set behind a late 20th-century gabled porch. Each floor has two casement windows, although the openings have been altered and all window details are from the 20th century. The building has a saw-toothed eaves cornice and gables that rest on kneelers, topped with low parapets. Inside, there are internal gable stacks with moulded plinths and a central square double flued ridge stack.
