Description
St. German's Hall is a house dating from the mid-17th century, with alterations made in the early 18th century and additions in the late 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of brick and features plain tiled roofs, forming an H plan. The west front has two storeys and an attic on a plinth, with three central bays flanked by stepped cross wings, each with one bay. The central door, added in the late 20th century, is framed by fluted timber pilasters. On either side of the door are one 19th-century sash window, while the first floor has three early 18th-century sash windows, all set under gauged skewback arches. A brick string course with a hood mould separates the floors. The gabled roof includes a single late 20th-century gabled dormer.
The cross wings rise to 2½ storeys, featuring casement windows on the lower two storeys with rusticated skewback arches and string courses at the floors, with the second floor having an arcaded design. The attic windows are under 4-centred arches, with the windows dating from the 18th century, except for the ground floor south window (late 20th century) and the ground floor north window (19th century). The house has an internal stack to the north and two external stacks on the south wings. The east front has been significantly altered but still retains many early 18th-century casements. Inside, the hall features ogee moulded and ribbed bridging beams, and the room is panelled with a fireplace overmantel added in the 19th century.
