Description
St Mary's Hall is a house located on Church Road in Wiggenhall St Mary. The gatehouse, situated in the south block, dates from the mid-16th century, while the rest of the building was constructed in 1864. The structure is made of brick, and the roof is not visible.
The gatehouse features two engaged octagonal embattled turrets that rise three storeys, flanking the central portion, which is also embattled and has a 19th-century porch designed in a similar style. Each turret has three round-arched rendered windows on each floor, set in square surrounds beneath a hollow string course and rendered ogival moulded pediments. The windows on the top floor do not have pediments. The central bay, which is two storeys high, includes a five-light round-headed rendered window beneath a similar pediment, with a string course at both floors.
The remainder of the house is a well-executed stylistic copy, standing two storeys below a high crenellated parapet, with octagonal corner turrets on the projecting wings. The fenestration of the south block mirrors that of the gatehouse, while cross casements are used elsewhere. The interior of the building is entirely from the 19th century.
