Description
The ruins of the Church of St Peter are the remains of a former parish church, primarily constructed in the 15th century, with the chancel dating back to 1421. The building features ashlar stone with some brick repairs and currently has no roof. It includes a west tower, nave, and chancel. The tower is three stages high, with the lower two stages appearing undifferentiated, and has flat buttresses on the east side and a setback on the south-west. A stair turret is located on the north-west side.
The west side of the tower has a three-light window beneath a hood, while the ringing chamber has square lancets and the belfry features two-light windows. The parapet is plain, and there are low arched doors on the north, south, and west sides of the tower. The south aisle was demolished in 1840, and three-light windows were reset into blocked arcade arches. The arcade consists of four bays with square section piers that have semi-circular lobes. The north side mirrors the south but has five stepped buttresses. The chancel windows are two-light, with one on the north and two on the south, displaying an earlier post-Decorated style compared to those in the nave. The east window is set under a four-centred arch, although most of its tracery is missing, unlike the other windows.
