Description

Nunney War Memorial is a First World War memorial erected in 1920, with later additions for the Second World War. It is constructed of granite and takes the form of a rough-hewn Latin cross that sits on a tapering plinth and rectangular base. Each of the four faces of the plinth features inscriptions in black lettering. The north-west face reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO LOST THEIR LIVES WHILE SERVING IN H.M. FORCES DURING THE GREAT WAR 1914-20 THIS MONUMENT WAS ERECTED AND THE BELLS OF THE CHURCH WERE RESTORED." The other three faces list the names of the men who died during the First World War. Additionally, on the south-east elevation, there is a stone at the base of the memorial with a receptacle for flowers, inscribed with the dates "1939 - 1945" and the names of the men who lost their lives during the Second World War on either side.
