Description
Wolferton Station The Clock House is a former public waiting room built around 1898. It is constructed of small carstone with brick dressings on the lower walls below window level, and features half-timbering with curved braces on the upper walls, topped with plain tiles. The building is single storey and consists of four stepped sections with 3, 2, 3, and 2 bays.
The forecourt facade faces southeast, with the lowest section on the left having three bays. It includes double-leaved doors that are partly glazed on the left, and two cross windows to the right. A clock turret with a lead cupola and wind vane sits over the first bay, while a small triangular roof dormer gable is located over the third bay. The left return features a high three-light leaded window. The second section, which is higher and has two bays, includes a cross window on the left and a doorway on the right, with a central axial stack made of brick dressed carstone topped with a stone cornice.
The highest three-bay section on the right projects forward and has half-timbering on the left gable end. The central bay is under a cross gable, and the doorway has been altered to include fixed glazing and a canopy. Tall leaded cross windows flank the doorway, and there are cross stacks on the flanking bays similar to those in the central section. The lower two bays on the right have two narrow windows.
The platform facade features a canopy with a fretwork verge supported by octagonal posts and glazed roof lights. The Clock House forms a group with Downside and The Original, both of which are also listed.
