Description
Wolferton Station piers, gates, and railings were built around 1898 and are made of brick with carstone and stone, along with wrought iron elements. The main features include a pair of brick piers that are 69 centimeters square, decorated with carstone, and topped with stone caps that have an egg and dart cornice. Each pier is adorned with four elaborate wrought iron scrolls and twisted bars that support lanterns. The lanterns have splayed faces with front glass panes etched with "WOLFERTON," and each face features a parapet with a Royal achievement and a crown finial, all gilded.
There are attached wrought iron gates that are 3.7 meters wide, featuring scroll work decoration. Smaller piers, similar in style, are located to the left and right, each topped with a stone ball emerging from a stylized flower, with small single wrought iron gates positioned between these piers. To the right, there is a low brick wall capped with stone, featuring ten small brick piers with carstone decoration and stone caps, along with ten wrought iron panels with scroll work, each 2.5 meters wide, placed between the piers. A similar wall with twelve piers and panels is attached to a smaller gate pier on the left and extends towards The Clockhouse. These gates were originally for the Upside Royal Waiting Rooms and form a group with The Original, The Clockhouse, and the gates and railings to The Clockhouse.
