Description

The Old Chemists Shop is a shop building dated 1824, with a late 18th century domestic range, arranged in an L-shaped plan. It is constructed of flint with gault brick dressings and has pantiled roofs. The building is two storeys high and features a three-bay facade facing the road. On the ground floor, shop windows flank a door opening that has a semi-circular brick arch above it. The first floor has two sash windows with glazing bars and a central blank window. The roof has brick corbelled eaves, a gabled design, and parapet gables with tumbling, along with end stacks. The west gable has a projecting chimney breast that carries a date stone, and there is one sash window on each floor.

The late 18th century south range is also two storeys and consists of three bays. The ground floor has two casement windows with glazing bars and segmental brick arches, while the first floor has three sash windows with glazing bars. There is a central wall monument dedicated to Roger Micklefield, who died in 1809. The south range also features brick corbel eaves beneath a gabled roof, with a ridge stack located left of centre and a stack at the south end. The building is included for its group value only.
