Description

The gates and gate piers to King Edward VII High School were built in 1906 and were partly rebuilt later. They are likely designed by Basil Champneys. The gate piers are made of brick with ashlar dressings. The pair of wrought iron gates features square section verticals, each adorned with a crowned oval field that displays the monogram E.R. (Edward VII Rex). Below the gates, there is a frieze with a scrolled overthrow that reads: King Edward VII Grammar School. The square section piers have stone coping, on which crouch stone lions that bear shields with a coat of arms. These structures are included for their group value.
