Description

Bishop's Terrace is a house that has been converted into shops and flats, dating from the mid-16th century. It is built of brick and features a plain tiled roof at the front and a pantiled roof at the rear. The building has an E-plan layout, consisting of two storeys and an attic with five bays, plus an additional projection to the east.

At the center, there is a gabled porch flanked by gabled cross wings that project to the right and left. A moulded brick string course runs along the first floor. The entrance to the porch has been altered, and the ground floors of the cross wings now feature 20th-century shopfronts. The ground-floor windows and the first-floor windows in the projecting bays have moulded brick pediments, although the one on the east cross wing is missing. The windows include 19th-century cross casements, sashes, and 20th-century casements, most of which are in reduced openings.

All three gables on the front are straight and have kneelers and tumbling. The roof is hipped and there are two ridge stacks. The rear of the building has 20th-century extensions.

The interior was only partially accessible during the review, with no notable features remaining on the ground floor, and it is reported that the same condition applies to the upper rooms.
