Description
The Porter's Lodge at King Edward VII High School was built in 1906 by Basil Champneys. It is constructed of brick and has a plain tiled roof. The building features a reduced Queen Anne vernacular style, based on Champneys' preferred domestic box-plan, which he also used for his Hall Oak in Hampstead from 1881. The lodge is square in shape, with one storey and a dormer attic. The north side has a three-bay rounded arcade facing the street, with a central door flanked by a casement window on each side. There are additional casement windows on the returns and rear of the building. Above the string course, the elevation is tile-hung. The hipped roof has a cluster stack at the apex with four flues, and there is one large dormer under a segmental roof on each slope of the roof.
