Description
The Old House is a farmhouse dating from the first half of the 17th century. It is constructed of flint with brick dressings on the south side and Flemish bond brick on the north, topped with a red pantiled roof. The building has two storeys and features a lobby entrance plan on the south side, with a later extension to the north.
On the ground floor, there are four three-light 19th-century arched-headed casement windows set under brick soldier arches. The central entrance has a two-leaf door with a moulded architrave, while a four-panel door with architrave is located on the north side. The first floor has four mid-20th-century metal frame casement windows. Notably, there is stitching of 17th-century brick above the south window and door, with 18th-century English bond brick used for heightening and corbelling courses. The roof features tile-coped parapets, and there is one axial lobby entrance and a stack at the north end. The north gable has two south gables and one blocked brick-dressed attic fire window, with a further blocked ground and first-floor brick-dressed fire window aligned with the lobby entrance. Additionally, there is a two-storey northwest brick wing under a separate roof pitch.
Inside, the central ground floor features stopped and chamfered spine beams and bressummer beams. The rear wing has a first-floor door architrave that may be a reused early 17th-century ovolo moulded and stopped design. The roof is a ridgeless butt purlin type with collars, and there is also an ovolo moulded and stopped door architrave.
