Description
Rollesby War Memorial is a First World War memorial built in 1920, located in the churchyard of St George’s Church on Fleggburgh Road in Rollesby, Norfolk. It stands prominently at the north-eastern corner of the churchyard, near the entrance from the junction of Fleggburgh Road and Heath Road. The memorial features a tall Latin cross made of Portland stone, measuring 4.2 meters high, with octagonal sides. This cross sits atop an octagonal shaft that has a moulded collar and foot, which in turn rests on a four-sided plinth with a similarly moulded foot. The base is circular, stepped, and consists of five tiers, measuring 2.7 meters in diameter at the bottom. The plinth is inscribed in incised lettering with the words: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ AND IN LOVING MEMORY OF/ THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES/ IN THE GREAT WAR/ FROM ROLLESBY/ 1914 – 1918."
