Description
Mautby War Memorial is a First World War memorial that was erected in 1920, with the architect remaining unknown. It is carved from limestone and is located in the churchyard of St Peter and St Paul Church in Mautby, Norfolk. The memorial is prominently placed by the churchyard path near the church entrance. It features a canopied calvary on top of a slender octagonal shaft, which has a moulded collar and a four-sided foot. This shaft rests on a four-sided plinth with moulded corners, which is set upon a deep, corniced step on a concrete foundation. The plinth displays inscriptions in incised lettering, which read: "TO / THE GLORY OF GOD / IN MEMORY OF / THE MEN OF THE PARISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES / FOR US IN THE GREAT WAR / 1914 – 19 // R.I.P // (NAMES)."
