Description
The summerhouse and carriage house at Filby House is a Grade II listed building. The carriage house dates from the mid-18th century and was converted into a summerhouse at the east end in the early 19th century. It is constructed of brick and features a thatched roof.
On the south side, there are two full-height timber double doors and a segmental pedestrian door. The west gable head was rebuilt in the 20th century. The building has a gabled roof, and the north side is adjacent to a garden wall. A secondary 19th-century wall approaches the south elevation from the south, separating the summerhouse section from the carriage yard.
The east gable has a lower portion that is glazed with six intersecting timber lights containing leaded glazing, with a glazed door located to the left of center. The intersecting lights continue into the south return as far as the secondary wall. Above the glazing, there is a timber platband. The gabled roof is supported on kneelers, featuring a central arched blind window. Atop the kneelers are two quatrefoil brick pinnacles that end in diminishing quatrefoil brick finials.
