Description

First World War and Second World War memorial.

DESCRIPTION: Thrigby War Memorial is located in the churchyard of the Grade II*-listed Church of St Mary, to the west of the entrance porch and adjacent to the tower.

It is of rough-hewn grey granite and takes the form of a Latin cross rising from a tapering, four-sided plinth surmounting a single-step, square base.

The dedication and names are recorded on the smooth, south face of the plinth in leaded lettering, reading, IN/ HONOURED MEMORY OF/ THE MEN OF THIS PARISH/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES/ IN THE TWO WORLD WARS/ (2 NAMES)/ THOU WAST THEIR ROCK,/ THEIR FORTRESS, AND THEIR MIGHT,/ THOU, LORD, THEIR CAPTAIN/ IN THE WELL FOUGHT FIGHT,/ THOU IN THE DARKNESS DREAR/ THEIR ONE TRUE LIGHT,/ ALLELUIA. Recorded under each name are details of the regiment, and the date and location of the serviceman's death.
