Description
Thrigby War Memorial is a memorial dedicated to those who served in the First and Second World Wars, located in the churchyard of the Grade II*-listed Church of St Mary, to the west of the entrance porch and next to the tower.
The memorial is made of rough-hewn grey granite and features a Latin cross that rises from a tapering, four-sided plinth, which is set on a single-step, square base.
On the smooth south face of the plinth, the dedication and names are inscribed in leaded lettering. The inscription reads: "IN HONOURED MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE TWO WORLD WARS" followed by two names. Below the names, details of each serviceman's regiment, as well as the date and location of their death, are recorded. The inscription also includes the text: "THOU WAST THEIR ROCK, THEIR FORTRESS, AND THEIR MIGHT, THOU, LORD, THEIR CAPTAIN IN THE WELL FOUGHT FIGHT, THOU IN THE DARKNESS DREAR THEIR ONE TRUE LIGHT, ALLELUIA."
