Description
21 Market Place is a shop with a flat above, originating from the 17th century but rebuilt around 1840 and altered in the late 20th century. It is constructed from gault brick and topped with a slate roof, featuring two gabled ranges. The building stands three storeys high and has a two-window range. The ground floor has a mid-20th century plate-glass shop front that extends over the adjacent No. 20. The first and second floors each have two late 20th century top-hung and centre-hung casement windows, all set under gauged skewback arches with keyblocks. The gabled roof includes a segmental-headed dormer fitted with plate glass, and there is a stack on the north side of the front roof slope, as well as a stack on the north side of the rear roof slope. Inside, the ground floor has been opened up as a single sales area and is contiguous with No. 20. A cellar runs perpendicular to the street line and features 17th century brickwork.
