Description
Valley Farm House is a 17th-century farmhouse, likely originally timber framed, with an eastern bay that was extended and incorporated in the early 18th century. This created a principal wing that has six irregular bays, is two storeys high with attics, and is constructed of red brick with a black pantile roof. The main facade features 18th-century oak casement windows and a central door with a moulded timber architrave, all set in original openings with flat gauged brick arches. There is a modillion eaves cornice. The north elevation includes an 18th-century oak casement window with a wrought iron light at the angle of a 19th-century outshut. Other windows are 20th-century replacements in original openings, and the building has parapet eaves with brick tumbling in. The south side has three gabled dormers with wrought iron casement windows and there are end stacks to the principal wing. The interior has been significantly altered in the 1970s, but retains some antique fittings. A 17th-century open fireplace with a timber bressumer is located centrally in the western range, along with exposed tie beams, stop-chamfered floor beams, and evidence of timber framing. The roof of the eastern range features a butt purlin roof with straight wind bracing.
