Description
The Rectory is a building constructed in 1788 for the Reverend J. Alderson. It is made of red brick and features a black pantiled roof. The structure has an 'L'-shaped plan and consists of two storeys, with a canted bay on the left side of the west elevation. In the late 19th century, the building was extended to the east, creating a double pile east wing and an additional east wing. There is also a single storey extension to the north and a first floor extension over a loggia to the east of the north wing.
The facade facing the road originally had three windows, which are adorned with flat gauged brick arches and sash windows that include glazing bars. There are inserted 19th-century sash windows on the ground floor to the left and in the bay window. The first floor side windows in the bay have been blocked. The entrance door, which is part-glazed, is off centre and features a timber door case with Tuscan pilasters, an open pediment, and a semi-circular fanlight with glazing bars. The building has gault brick modillion eaves, hipped roofs, and axial stacks. Additionally, there is a 19th-century cast iron pergola attached to the southern end of the west elevation.
