Description
The granary located to the west of the barn at Spixworth Hall is a former granary dated 1730, as indicated by a sundial panel on the south wall. It is constructed of red brick featuring a vertical pattern in dark headers and has a steeply-pitched pantile roof. The building is two storeys high with a symmetrical south facade that has five bays, where the central bay is advanced and topped with a shaped gable. This gable includes a clock dial set in a circular stone surround above a square stone sundial. The window openings are square with rubbed brick arches, although the ground floor openings have been altered. The first floor openings feature iron ventilation grilles.
The central doorway has a semi-circular head and is adorned with rusticated gault brick dressings. Inside the porch, there are three doorways with four-centred heads and spandrels, and one doorway leading to a winding stair has a rectangular fanlight. A platband runs at the first floor level. The east and west gables are shaped, with the west gable displaying a weather vane. There is a blocked attic window opening and a platband on the west gable. At the center, there is an octagonal bell-cote topped with an ogee-headed dome and finial. Additionally, there is a later wing to the north that features a hipped roof, lunettes, and semi-circular headed openings.
