Description
This granary, built in the 18th century, is located about 25 yards south-south-west of Grange Farmhouse. It is constructed from sandstone rubble and features a stone slate roof. The building has four structural bays arranged in a north-north-east to south-south-west orientation, and it stands two storeys high with a lowered attic.
The west elevation includes three windows, with the outer two being two-light windows and the center window having four panes. On the ground floor, there is a segmentally headed opening on the left side with ledged shutters, and an early 20th-century sliding door to the right. The north gable features a two-light attic window and a blocked three-centred arch on the ground floor, which contains a two-light glazing-bar casement with a sliding door to the right.
On the east elevation, stone tallet stairs rise from the north to a ledged door on the first floor. Inside, there is an oak dog-leg stair, collar trusses with angle struts that rise from the second floor to the principals, and horizontal members that tie back to the principals at the wall-plate level. The blocked arch in the north gable is mirrored in the east gable, suggesting that the ground floor may have originally served as a wainhouse. The granary is included for its group value.
