Description
This granary, dating from the 18th century, is located about 20 yards south-west of Weirend Farmhouse. It is constructed from sandstone rubble and features a Welsh slate roof. The building has a rectangular plan oriented west-north-west to east-south-east and consists of five structural bays across two levels.
On the north elevation, there are two late 19th-century 2-light casement windows, one on either side of a central ledged door, which is accessed by a set of tallet stairs on the right. The ground floor includes a ledged door on the left side, flanked by two vent slits, and another ledged door to the right. The east gable features a 2-light casement window with a segmental head on the first floor and a square opening at the apex.
Inside, the granary has unique trusses with corbelled king-posts that support two pairs of parallel struts leading to the principals. Additionally, there is an enclosure for pigeons or doves in the east gable, which is accessed through the square opening. The trusses bear a close resemblance to those found in the barn located about 90 yards south-west of Grange Farmhouse in Harewood.
