Description

Farmhouse. Likely dating from the 18th century, with additions and alterations in the early 19th century. Constructed of sandstone rubble with Welsh slate roofs and brick stacks, the farmhouse has a rectangular plan consisting of two parallel ranges aligned north-north-east to south-south-west. It includes a cellar and has two storeys and attics. The east elevation features five windows, mostly glazing bar sash windows with cambered heads, with a canted bay window to the left. A roughly central glazed door, dating from the late 19th century, is sheltered by an early 20th-century canopy with a Welsh slate roof extending over the door and adjacent windows. The west elevation contains segmental headed casements in the early 19th century to the left of the entrance, and canted bay windows with glazing bar sashes to the right.

Inside, the farmhouse has ten service bells located in the rear hall. A two-flight early 19th century cantilevered staircase features carved tread ends, an oak handrail, and stick balusters. The ground floor has diapered quarry tiles. A room on the south-east first floor has an early 19th century cast-iron fireplace with a raised basket, a frieze decorated with rosettes, and surrounds with small nail-heads.

The eastern range comprises seven structural bays, with most of the trusses featuring collars supported by two posts, which are tied back to the principals. Two of the trusses have curved principals and king-posts. A partition is located between the third and fifth bays from the south, and contains an opening divided by diamond section oak mullions adjacent to an 18th-century ledged door with strap hinges.
