Description

MARSTOW CP SO 52 SE 6/80 Granary about 25 yards south of Ash Farmhouse

GV II

Granary. C18. Finely coursed sandstone rubble, brick, sandstone dressings and Welsh slate roof. Rectangular plan of four bays aligned east/west. Cellar, two storeys and attic. North elevation has four windows with lintels beneath relieving arches and diamond-section transoms producing the effect of louvres. Ground floor has three windows with mid-C19 shutters, ledged door to left of centre. Cellar entry to right of centre has 3-centred head and barrel drop. Dressed quoins and verges with kneelers to gables. East elevation has stone tallet stairs over dog-kennel rising from north to C18 ledged door with strap hinges to first floor. Central attic opening with diamond-section oak transoms. South elevation has blind openings with brick panels to first floor. Interior has longitudinal barrel vault to three western bays. Eastern bay of attic has its southern half partitioned off next to C18 oak dog-leg stairs. Trusses to west have two collars, the lower ones supported by angle struts from principals. East truss has interrupted tie-beam and collar.
