Description
Home Farmhouse is a farmhouse from the early 17th century that has undergone significant alterations. It is constructed of red brick, partly colourwashed, and features a steeply-pitched pantile roof. The building has two storeys and an attic, with the main facade facing east. The facade displays an irregular arrangement of 20th-century casement windows, including 2, 3, and 4-light configurations. There are square brick dripmoulds above the doorway and the northern ground floor window, with the doorway located off-centre to the north side. Openings south of the doorway have segmental heads. The north gable is crow-stepped and has a later internal stack, with two 2-light casements on each floor. A central ground floor opening in the gable, which has a dripmould, is blocked by a later fireplace. There is an internal stack at the south gable and an axial stack off-centre to the north. The south gable features a ground floor lean-to, a small attic casement, and a parapet with tumbling-in. The rear has a 1½ storey catslide with 20th-century attic dormers. Inside, the farmhouse has a good staircase dating from around 1600, with square-section carved balusters, square newels, and half newels that have simple banded finials. The ground floor includes tie and bridging beams with barred ogee stops to the chamfers, decorated with foliage.
