Description
Wendling War Memorial is located in the churchyard of the Church of SS Peter and Paul, which is a Grade II*-listed building. This memorial stands approximately 3 meters tall and is prominently placed on the east side of the path leading to the church. It consists of a stone obelisk that is square in shape, resting on a corniced plinth. The plinth features a moulded foot and base and displays inscriptions in incised and black-painted lettering.
The main dedicatory inscription on the front face of the plinth reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF (7 NAMES) WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918. ERECTED BY THE PARISHIONERS." A later dedication, found on the south face of the plinth, states: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF (3 NAMES) WHO FELL IN THE WAR OF 1939 - 1945." The names from the First World War are listed without rank, while the names from the Second World War include the rank of each of the three individuals.
