Description
49 Castle Street is a mid-19th century house that has been converted into offices. It is constructed of flint with gault brick dressings and features a slate roof. The building has two storeys and is arranged in three bays. On the ground floor, there is a plank doorway on the far left that leads to a passage, and to its right, a six-panelled door. Another six-panelled door is located further right within panelled reveals. The doorcase is adorned with engaged reeded columns that support a block triglyph entablature and an open pediment. In the center of the ground floor is a late 19th-century shop display window with glazing bars. The first floor is illuminated by three six-over-six sash windows. A dentil eaves cornice runs along the top, and the gabled roof has a ridge stack positioned to the left of center. Inside, there is a stick baluster staircase with a ramped handrail, and two ground-floor doors feature shell pediments with trailing scrolls.
