Description
No. 51 Castle Street is a mid-19th century house and shop made of flint with gault brick dressings and a slate roof. The building has two storeys and features a brick pilaster running up the center of the facade. On the left side, there is a 4-centred carriage arch, and immediately to the right, a 6-panelled door is set under a stilted arch. The late 19th-century shop front on the right includes glazing bars and a prominent fascia board. The main door, located at the extreme right, is also 6-panelled and is framed by a doorcase with a pair of reeded engaged columns that support block triglyph entablatures and an open pediment. Above the door is a 6-vaned fanlight. The first floor features three 6/6 sash windows. The roof is gabled with a ridge stack positioned to the left of center. Inside, there is a stick baluster staircase.
