Description

32, 34, and 36 Castle Street is a terrace of three houses built around 1830. The buildings are constructed of flint with gault brick dressings and feature a slate roof. Each property is defined by quoining.

No. 32 has a six-panelled door beneath a six-vaned fanlight, with reeded engaged columns supporting a block entablature and a curved hood. There is an early 19th-century shop display window to the left with glazing bars. The first floor has two unhorned sash windows with 6/6 glazing bars, and the second floor features two 6-paned windows under segmental heads.

No. 34 consists of three bays and is entered through a central double-leaf door, each leaf having one upright fielded panel. The doorcase has reeded and fluted engaged columns that rise to block entablatures with triglyphs and an open pediment. To the right, there is a plank door leading to a passageway, set in a subsidiary bay that has one blind window on each floor above. To the left, there is a 20th-century plate-glass shop display window. The first floor is lit by two 8/8 sash windows with gauged skewback arches, and the second floor has two additional blind windows.

No. 36 features a half-glazed door within a simple doorcase and a late 19th-century shop display window to the left. There is one blind window on each floor above, a dentil eaves cornice, and a gabled roof with three ridge stacks. The interior has not been inspected.
