Description

This is a barn located immediately west-southwest of Primrose Farmhouse, dating from the late 17th century. It features a plastered timber-frame construction set on a brick plinth, topped with a thatched roof that has gable ends. There is a pantile roof outshut that connects to an adjoining stable.

The barn has a three-bay layout with opposing cart entrances at the front and back of the central bay. On the left (southwest) end, there is a late 19th-century outshut, while a 19th-century stable is positioned at the front of the right end. The exterior includes a full-height cart entrance at the center, which has plank double doors. The left side is weatherboarded, while the right side is plastered, with a single-storey stable range that projects at right angles. The lean-to outshut on the left end has weatherboarded walls. The rear (northwest) side is plastered and features another cart entrance at the center with plank double doors and weatherboarding above.

Inside, the frame is complete with tall close-studding and no mid rail, long straight tension braces, and intact wall and sole plates. There are curved braces to the tie-beams, tenoned collars, and staggered tenoned purlins supporting the principal rafters. The common rafters are intact, with straight wind-braces and a ridgeboard.
