Description

The Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century and later, located on the north side of Dereham Road in Mattishall. It features a rendered and colourwashed timber frame, with some sections replaced by brick, and has a pantile roof. The building stands two storeys high and includes a modern gabled porch opposite an off-centre axial stack. There are two 3-light windows and one 4-light window with metal casements and horizontal glazing bars, along with two 3-light and one 2-light later casement windows. Inside, there are fragments of moulded plasterwork. The west gable end has two 2-light ovolo-moulded mullion windows that have likely been repositioned. The house has an off-centre axial stack and gable-end stacks on the eastern side, which are external. The rear mainly features modern windows, but there is one surviving 18th-century metal casement with leaded glazing and a decorative pull. Additionally, there is a later lean-to structure on the east side and at the rear.
