Description

Ivy Farm’s stables and barn are a former stable block with a hay loft, extended in the 19th century by a barn. The stables date to 1741, marked on the west gable with the initials I.A.S. The barn is of the 19th century. Both structures are built of brick, with pantile roofs. The stables feature chequer pattern brickwork and a symmetrical facade with a boarded central door flanked by single windows. The original door and one window retain skewback arches with cambered soffits. Two later doorways give access to the loft. The gables have tumbling-in set closely to the western gable only. The roof is a collar and wedge-tenoned butt-purlin design. The barn has an off-centre cart entrance and a shallow pitched roof, with various later lean-to additions.
