Description

This building is a hospital, originally a country house dating back to around 1775. It was significantly rebuilt externally in the late 1820s and internally in the 1920s. The design is of a large, square block, three stories high, with full-height bow windows projecting from the ends of the elevations. The exterior is faced in channelled stucco, topped by a parapet and covered by a slate roof. The south elevation features three-window bow windows at each end and protruding corner details with plain pilasters. The central section has a two-window facade with a tetrastyle wooden Tuscan loggia. Sash windows are set within architrave surrounds. Moulded floor bands and a cornice run along the facade. The east and west elevations each feature a single bow window on the south side and four windows on the north. Inside, the building has a Queen Anne style with a prominent staircase featuring large barley-twist balusters.
