Description

Sherwoods, also known as Beggars Roost, is a cottage terrace dating from the 17th century. It is situated opposite the Salisbury Crest public house. The fronts of the cottages are originally brick, and now painted. It is likely the interior is timber-framed. The main range is two storeys high and features seven regularly-spaced windows of 17th and 18th century origin; the penultimate window on the left has been blocked. The windows are 2-light casements with small panes, incorporating original oak mullions. A floor band runs along the front. The roof is covered with plain tiles. A projecting two-window extension to the right of Sherwoods was built in the early 19th century. This extension features early 19th century sash windows and a ground-floor shop window surround of the same date, exhibiting a moulded frame and a bolection on the frieze.
