Description
The cottages, numbered 1 to 7, are located on the east side of Church Street, Essendon, and likely originated as almshouses. They were probably built in the 17th century and restored around 1959. The building is timber-framed with roughcast rendering. The roofs are steeply pitched and covered in plain tiles, with square chimney stacks of red brick, dating to the 17th and 18th centuries. The cottages are arranged in a U-shaped plan, forming a courtyard on the east side. The west elevation has seven windows, with modern glazing bar casements. The south elevation features a single 17th-century red brick square chimney stack on the left side and a plastered stack of similar date near the right side. The doors are fitted with modern pediment hoods.
