Description

Goodrich House is a late 18th century red brick house located in Old Hatfield. It features a plain tile gable end roof and consists of two storeys, a basement, and an attic. The façade includes five recessed sash windows with glazing bars and louvred 18th century shutters, along with protective iron grills on the basement windows. The entrance is framed by an Adam style doorcase, which has double doors with large fielded panels and an ornate radiating fan. The doorcase is accented by fielded reveals and three-quarter fluted columns with lotus type capitals. The frieze displays husk festoons and paterae, topped with a dentilled pediment. The house also has five 2-light box casement dormers.

At the rear, the ground floor features a half-glazed door flanked by shallow multi-pane bows. There is a long extension on the west side that ends in a square block with a pyramid roof. This extension is adjacent to 18th century square gate piers with stone finials shaped like bishop's mitres, which flank a wrought iron gate. Inside, the entrance hall showcases a late 18th century screen with fluted Doric pilasters, and there is a rear staircase hall with barley twist balusters.
