Description

Tolmers Park Hospital is a country house that was converted into a hospital in the 20th century and is now disused. Built in the 1830s, it features Greek and Italianate architectural styles. The exterior is finished in painted stucco with a slate roof and consists of two storeys. The main house, located at the right end of a long range that curves with the drive, has three windows and a tetrastyle Greek Ionic porte cochere. It includes round-headed double doors with a Vitruvian surround and arched ground floor windows that have bracketed cornices. The ends of the house are adorned with plain giant pilasters, and there is a sill and cornice band. The parapet has four acroteria, with the central ones raised on a balustrade. The house features sash windows, and the service wing has similar architrave surrounds to its windows, along with a pediment on the terminal pavilion. Inside, the house has a square entrance hall with a saucer-dome vault. The wing extends into a curved stock brick wall that leads to the east-facing stable block, which has five windows, segmental relieving arches over the outer and central projections, ground floor therm sash windows in the intermediate bays, corbelled eaves, and a slate roof.
