Description

Mymwood School is a house built around 1820 that was converted into a school in 1932. It features a 17th-century timber frame bay at the northeast corner and has undergone alterations around 1840 and in the 20th century. The exterior is finished in painted stucco with slate roofs. The building has a square plan, with the two-storey sections forming an H shape. The entrance elevation has a window arrangement of 1:4:1, with the left and right projections featuring bracketed eaves. There are recessed sash windows and a central conservatory with three windows and a modillioned porch on the left. The west elevation, dating from around 1840, has seven windows and continues the bracketed cornice band. The ground and first floor windows have moulded frames, with the central window featuring a pediment. Inside, there is a square entrance hall with a mutule cornice and a circular field surrounded by a bay leaf motif. The north side has a passage marked by Doric columns, and most of the doorcases on the ground and first floors remain intact. A rear central cast iron staircase features palmette designs.
