Description

The Coal Duty Marker at the junction with Well Road is a Grade II listed structure from 1861, cast by Henry Crissell in London. This marker indicates the extent of coal duty, which extends 20 miles from the General Post Office. It is a cast iron square pier that stands one and a half metres high, featuring chamfered corners and a pyramid top. The necking of the pier displays the City of London crest, and there is a plaque beneath it that reads: 'Act 24 and 25 Vict Cap 42'.
