WATFORD RURAL HAMPERMILL LANE (Northwest side) Oxhey Clock House at Hamper Mill

Former wheel house to paper mill, now part of dwelling. c.1800 altered C20. Brick with stone dressings. Hipped slate roof. 5 bays. 2 storeys. Chamfered rusticated stone surround to 4-centred arched central doorway. Flanking and first floor 20 pane cast-iron fixed windows, first floor centre is blind. Chamfered stone quoins. Timber clock tower in 2 stages with open bell turret and weathervane. Attached at right end is part of wall of original mill building. C20 alterations to rear. Interior not inspected. Hamper Mill was used for the manufacture of paper from 1776 to 1908 and this building was probably erected following a fire in 1793. (VCH 1908).
