Description
The garden wall located to the southeast of Childwick Bury Manor dates from the late 18th century and was altered in the late 19th century. It is constructed of red brick and features vitrified brick buttresses and piers. The wall has a square plan and stands about 4 meters high. There are wide openings on the northwest and southeast sides that originally provided an uninterrupted view from the house, although the northwest side has been blocked by late 19th-century greenhouses. The flanking walls on this side include square pavilions, which have pedimented doorways on their outer sides and roundels on the inner sides. The southeast opening features a late 19th-century terracotta garden wall, beyond which lies an 18th-century 'ha-ha'. This wall is a notable example of a walled garden that has been integrated with the southeast axis of the house.
