Description

This is an early 19th-century building situated on Harpenden Road. The main, or front, elevation is located below road level. It is two storeys high with three windows. The roof has a low pitch, is covered in slate, and features an eaves cornice. The walls are constructed of red brick with a decorative pattern of blue headers, creating a diaper effect. Sash windows with glazing bars are set within gauged, shallow, segmental brick arches. The ground-floor windows are in flush, box frames and retain their original external shutters. The first-floor centre window has been blocked. The front door has a corniced head and a plain fanlight, sheltered by a cornice hood supported on large, curved brackets over pilasters. A two-storey extension is located to the right, featuring one window on the first floor and a blank façade on the ground floor. A more modern extension has been added to the left return, designed to be in keeping with the original building.
